Students Take Field Trip to Egan

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH., June 4, 2010 - Nearly 60 ninth-grade students enrolled in Grand Rapids Public School's Academy of Design and Construction took a field trip to Andy J. Egan Co. on Thursday, June 3.

The students "walked" through 3-D renderings of various buildings during a presentation put on by the CAD (computer-aided drafting) department.

They continued their trip with a tour of the engineering department and heard from Egan engineers about a typical day at work. The tour concluded with a walk-through of Egan's fabrication shop, where students learned from one of Egan's certified welders what he does on a typical day.

Students took the field trip as part of their lesson on mechanical contracting.
