We are looking for a VDC Layout Detailer to transform coordinated BIM models into fabrication-ready and installation-ready deliverables. This role focuses on fabrication documentation, detailed install drawings, spool drawings, shop drawing production, material takeoffs, and support for fabrication and field installation activities. Duties:

Shop Drawing Production

  • Produce detailed shop drawings for fabrication and installation.
  • Create spool drawings showing dimensions, weld locations, and fabrication requirements.
  • Generate assembly drawings and skid drawings when required.
  • Create weld maps and installation package drawings.
  • Ensure drawings comply with project specifications and fabrication standards.
  • Generate ISO drawings for flushing tests, welder IDs, and related documentation.

Quality Assurance / Quality Control

  • Review spool drawings for dimensional accuracy.
  • Validate BOMs against spool drawings and fabrication requirements.

Field & Shop Support

  • Respond to fabrication shop questions regarding spool packages.
  • Support field installation teams with drawing clarifications.
  • Provide drawing revisions resulting from field conditions or project changes.
  • Update fabrication documents to reflect approved changes.

Skills & Experience:

Technical Skills

  • Experience with Fabrication CADmep, Revit, M-Suite, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud / BIM 360 or similar cloud collaboration platforms.

Industry Knowledge

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of detailing experience. Mechanical and plumbing field experience preferred.
  • Experience creating shop drawings, spool drawings, weld maps, installation packages, or fabrication release packages preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand engineered contract drawings.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, piping, fabrication, and field installation workflows.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work with VDC Coordinators and Designers.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organization, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Valid driver license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in office, fabrication shop, and construction site environments as required.

Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday, day shift
  • Typical hours: 7:00am-4:30pm EST

  • Headquarters - Grand Rapids, MI
