Grand Rapids, Mich.—Mechanical contractor and fabricator Andy J. Egan Co. (Egan) has expanded its Service & Controls Division, establishing operations in Nashville and Knoxville to better serve commercial, industrial and institutional customers across the region. The expansion builds on Egan’s 2025 strategic partnership with MEP contractor Sylvan, Inc., which has been serving Tennessee since 2016.
Growth in Tennessee’s business community, especially in the healthcare, technology, and manufacturing sectors, has created increased demand for mechanical maintenance providers, services that Egan has been delivering to its Michigan customers for more than a century. Over the summer, Sylvan strategically transitioned its service divisions in Knoxville and Nashville to Egan, leveraging Egan's established service culture and customer-focused approach. Backed by the Sylvan Group, Egan and Sylvan combine complementary strengths to better serve customers across Tennessee, with Sylvan leading construction services and Egan providing mechanical service, maintenance, and controls solutions.
Since the transition, the service teams in each region have roughly doubled in size, growing to 30 in Knoxville and 10 in Nashville. Sylvan continues to operate construction offices from each locale, with the partner divisions supporting one another through seamless services for customers. “What sets Egan apart is our ability to serve Tennessee businesses as a single source for their facility needs,” added Antonowitsch. “From service plumbing, HVAC and electrical to preventative maintenance plans, our customers can make one call for complete support.”
Founded in Michigan as heating company in 1919, Egan has since grown into a full-service mechanical contractor offering plumbing, piping, HVAC sheet metal, design, engineering, fabrication, building controls, 24/7 service and construction technology solutions. More than 80 technicians provide preventative maintenance and mechanical services for customers from Egan’s offices in Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Kalamazoo, and St. Joseph-Benton Harbor.
As it does in the Midwest, Egan provides 24/7 emergency services to customers in Tennessee, a critical benefit for the institutional, industrial and commercial properties that require support outside regular business hours. “We operate as an extension of the building owners’ internal team,” said Antonowitsch. “Many organizations lack the resources to manage multiple service providers, and we’re able to deliver a full facility maintenance solution that keeps their operations running efficiently.”
Businesses in the Greater Knoxville area can call 865-666-1913 for Egan’s support, and 615-374-6437 in the Greater Nashville area.
