The 3 Mile Project Receives $10,000 Gift in Egan’s $100k Community Giveaway

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Mechanical contractor and fabricator Andy J. Egan Co. (Egan) yesterday presented the 3 Mile Project with a $10,000 donation as part of the company’s 100-year anniversary celebration. Egan is awarding 10 West Michigan charities with donations totaling $100,000 in 2019. The 3 Mile Project is the fourth charity to be selected in the Egan $100k Community Giveaway.

The 3 Mile Project is a non-profit community youth center dedicated to providing a safe, fun and encouraging place where West Michigan youth can be part of a positive community. The 34,000-square-foot facility includes sports courts, theaters, a skate park, ninja course, video games, table games, a craft room, and a café.

“Growing up has never been easy, and it’s a tough world out there for our young people,” says Stan Kiste, Executive Director of the 3 Mile Project. “By providing a safe, positive and exciting place for young people, we’re doing our best to be a little refuge of light in the darkness through an environment that reflects love and joy.”

More than 25,000 young people in the greater Grand Rapids area have been able to experience the community center since it opened in 2010, thanks in part to the low $5 admission fee. Kiste explains that the fee is artificially low, covering less than 20% of the facility’s budget. Donations like Egan’s allow the 3 Mile Project to maintain this low admission fee that keeps the facility accessible to children of all financial backgrounds.

“The 3 Mile Project is serving a community that’s truly in our backyard, as it’s located less than a mile from our headquarters,” says Beth Jester, spokesperson for Egan. “We’re so thankful that the organization is providing such positive, joyful experiences for young people in West Michigan.”
