Covenant House Michigan Grand Rapids Campus Seeks to Remove Transportation Barriers for Residents with $10,000 Gift from Egan’s $100k Community Giveaway

Grand Rapids, Mich.—Mechanical contractor and fabricator Andy J. Egan Co. (Egan) announced yesterday that Covenant House Michigan Grand Rapids Campus would be the third charity in its $100k Community Giveaway to receive a $10,000 donation. Egan is presenting 10 West Michigan charities with donations in 2019 to mark 100 years in business.

Covenant House is a faith-based, nonprofit organization that provides hope to homeless, runaway and at-risk youth ages 18-24. The Grand Rapids campus opened its doors in November of 2018, where it provides shelter, education and vocational programs, as well as other support services, to help overcome hurdles such as homelessness, unemployment, inadequate education, violence, drugs and gangs.

The $10,000 “seed gift” will be used toward the purchase of a van to transport youth to medical appointments, job interviews, group outings, church services and more. “Access to transportation will help these youth embrace the great promise of their lives,” says Pam Spaeth, Chief Operating Officer of Covenant House Michigan Grand Rapids Campus. “By removing the transportation barriers for young people in our program, we can better redirect them from a path of homelessness to one of self-sufficiency, thus reducing the number of chronic homeless.”

To fully fund the purchase of a van, Covenant House plans to seek “matching gifts” from donors. “When we learned of the inspirational ways in which the organization walks alongside young people in need, we wanted to find a way walk with them too,” says Beth Jester, spokesperson for Egan. “Egan is honored to kick off Covenant House’s effort to purchase a van with this donation”
